CD - Collected Works

It's a sad fact that after more than four years the publisher has still not managed to release the CD-ROM as planned, even though I actively participated in all phases of the compilation process as well as the intensive proofreading phase (and even made all the necessary corrections on my own (!) by the end of 2007).

It turned out that approximately 30% of the Greek quotes in the original text of the Gesammelte Werke (Collected Works) had been printed incorrectly, and I also discovered about 450 additional typographical errors in the German text. After that point, the publisher made no effort whatsoever to issue the CD. I was then left with no other option than to demand compensation for the work I had done on the project, at the very least. I was ultimately forced to take legal action. This attempt, however, was not successful - a comparison of costs was made and both parties' demands were dropped, and thus I did not receive any reimbursement for my years of work on the project. In the meantime, the Philemon Foundation had offered to step in to cover my outstanding fees and the fees for the work still needed to complete the project. However, this offer was declined by the managing director of the publishing company at the time, for reasons that were completely beyond me. At this point I would like to thank the Philemon Foundation and especially Dr. Sonu Shamdasani and Dr. Stephen Martin, who fought tirelessly to make this invaluable tool a reality. The issue was certainly not a lack of willpower or even of financial means. Indeed, too many questions still remain unanswered.

I would also like to share some more sad details of this story, which I cannot keep to myself (otherwise I would suffocate!). In my desperation, I wrote a three-page letter to the chairman of C.G. Jung's community of heirs (known today as the Stiftung Werke C.G. Jung, or Foundation of the Works of C.G. Jung), which remains unanswered to this day!

To quote Ovid, Finis coronat opus (The end crowns the work!).

The service we are now offering enables the public to access and search Jung's complete works, so that experts and novices alike can do specific research and find out what Jung had to say about particular keywords or topics. In addition to the English version of Jung's complete works, Sigmund Freud's complete works and Erich Neumann's Grosse Mutter (The Great Mother) and Ursprungsgeschichte des Bewusstseins (The Origin and History of Consciousness) can also be searched. A legal assessment has revealed that this service will in no way infringe, let alone harm, the rights to these works.

Perhaps one day there will be a better solution.

For everyone who wishes to learn more about the works of these giants of 20th-century thought, we are offering the opportunity to discover these works on the Internet. For all those of you who have been waiting patiently to receive a CD of your own, I hope this service will nevertheless offer a small chance to experience Jung's oeuvre. Simply try out our offer - you won't be disappointed.
